What is Labradorite?
Labradorite is considered to be one of the most fascinating minerals found on Earth. It consists of calcium (50% to 70%), sodium (30% to 50%) in the calcium / sodium position of the crystal structure. This particular mineral is developed when complex combinations of elements are mixed together and then affected by pressure and high temperature.
.
Color
Blocks of labradorite have the ability to create a multicolored play of colors known as iridescence. This optical effect is caused by daylight reflecting off layers of atoms. The concentrated colors of labradorite vary from grey to smoky black, yellow to orange, blue to violet. Sometimes some specimens may show these colors simultaneously.
.
How is Labradorite used?
Labradorite is being used for fine jewelry as well as for constructional material. Given that labradorite frequently shows an amazing play of colors in blues and greens, it is being polished and used for decorative purposes.
